Pearl Care 101: How to Keep the Glow Alive

Pearls are one of those things that never go out of style. They’re soft, glowing, and have that quiet kind of confidence. But unlike metal or stone, pearls are organic gems, and they need a little extra love to stay radiant. They need care if you want them to stay beautiful for years.

Here’s how to take care of them, the easy way.

Last On, First Off

Before you spray perfume, body mist, or hair spray, wait. All these contain chemicals that can dull your pearls. Always make your pearls the last thing you put on before going out, and the first thing you take off when you return.

Avoid Sweat and Strong Light

We get it, sometimes the dance floor calls, and we love it too! But sweat and prolonged sunlight can damage a pearl’s luster. If you’re planning a beach day or a full night of dancing, keep your pearls for the afterparty.

Clean Gently, Never Soak

After wearing, wipe your pearls with a soft, damp cloth to remove oils and residue. Don’t soak them. Pearls are organic and porous, and water can seep in and weaken the thread or surface.

Store Softly

Don’t just throw them in a jewelry box with everything else. Harder metals or gemstones can scratch pearls' surface, so keep them in a soft pouch or separate space. A silk pouch or felt-lined case is ideal.

Check the String Sometimes
